Prevention


Methods to decrease overfishing include:
  • monitoring fisheries by setting safe catch limits
  • controlling bycatch 
  • protecting important habitats

  • enforcing established limitations.
 On an individual basis, people need to be informed and aware of what they’re eating and the food’s level of endangerment. Consuming seafood from only sustainable fisheries is one step that everyone can take on a personal basis. 





Figure 18 is a label that can be found on seafood that comes from a sustainable fishery. Figure 19 shows labels that rate the seafood based on their endangerment state. Figure 20 gives suggestions on what you could switch to eating.
